Exiftool is awesome
Posted: 2012/01/17 Filed under: Computer, Photography | Tags: example, exiftool, forum, online, output 2 Comments »Using exiftool, you can get the exif data you want from a image pretty quickly in a text format for online use.
Using this command on a bunch of jpg’s in a folder,
exiftool -model -LensModel -ExposureProgram -WhiteBalance -ExposureTime -FNumber -ISO -FocalLength -FocalLengthIn35mmFormat ./*.jpg >> exif.txt
Produces this output, almost ready to use in a forum or wherever you need it!

To install exiftool on Mac, get the installer bundle from Pil Harveys’ website http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/
Mac Not Going To Sleep
Posted: 2011/09/30 Filed under: Computer | Tags: Lion, Mac, Not, Sleep, Unable 2 Comments »Unknown to me, my Mac wasn’t going to sleep anymore for several days or weeks, until I finally noticed it one weekend. NOT a good thing when the computer is on and stuck in a drawer!
Here’s how I finally found out what was keeping it awake.
Open Terminal and type: pmset -g
Look for the line that says “sleep” In my case it said sleep 0 (imposed by 1733) (Normally when everything is hunky-dory, it will just say sleep 0)
What that means, is that process ID 1733 was keeping my Mac from sleeping.
So grabbing that ID and sticking it into this command: ps -ef | grep -e 1733
Gave me this: 0 1733 1 0 8:39pm ?? 0:00.04 /usr/libexec/InternetSharing (It will also spit out a bunch of other stuff but you can see that this was the only relevent item that matched our ID of 1733.)
AHA! So internet sharing was to blame!
Since I don’t need it I have no idea why it was on, but there it was. Turning it off from the Sharing preference pane made my Mac a happy sleeper again.

The Vancouver hockey riot
Posted: 2011/06/16 Filed under: Linked | Tags: Canada, Riot, Vancouver Leave a comment »The riots in Vancouver this past day have everybody shaking their heads, however most people seem to be missing something.
I doubt that the people who started this were Canucks fans, I believe they they were a group of “terrorists” that pre-planned this.
Other people agree with this,
I know Vancouver well. These were NOT hockey fans. They are malcontents and anarchists who wreak havoc randomly. This was pre-planned for this night, regardless of the game’s result. -honsey @ hotair.com
They were seen on a subway drinking heavily before the game, they brought fire extinguishers, Molotov cocktails, gasoline containers, and wore masks and dark hoodies, clearly up to no good.
Quite a handy guide!
